I Met My Younger Self for a Coffee
This is a beautiful trend inspired by Jennae Cecelia’s poem in her book ‘deep in my feels’.
I met my younger self for a coffee this morning.
I was two minutes late. She was fifteen because it had taken that long for the unit nurse to sign her out.
She didn’t order anything because she was worried about cleanliness and germs. I ordered a strawberry frappe.
She wore leggings and a hoodie, her third set of clothes today. I wore cargo trousers and a jumper.
She said she didn’t have a future. I said that I know I belong in the world and I know I have a future.
She asked me if I still hate myself and if every minute is hard to get through. I told her that I don’t hate myself and that life is filled with joy.
She said that there is no reason she should exist. I told her that I’m a mental health nurse and a best-selling author and I know my life has meaning.
She cried. I hugged her and told her to hold on, that everything would be okay.
There is hope. Even when everything feels dark and impossible, when you don’t think you have a future, your future is there waiting for you.
Keep fighting. Hold on.
Love, Emily x
